THE RIGHTWAYUP FIELD NOTES
Rotate a video without losing quality
Choose between orientation data and a new picture.
There are two ways to turn a video. Their results can look the same, but their costs and compatibility differ.
Change orientation data
This method tells the player how to display the picture. It preserves the encoded video when possible. It can export quickly without another video compression pass.
Select Change orientation data (fast, lossless). Check the downloaded file in the player where you will use it. Some players and websites ignore orientation data.
Rotate the picture
This method changes the actual video frames. It encodes the picture again. It takes longer and can change quality. It is the default because the upright picture does not depend on orientation data.
Select Rotate the picture (best compatibility) when a social website or older player still shows the fast export sideways.
What happens to the audio?
Rotation does not require changing the sound. RightWayUp uses its conversion library to preserve supported audio. It stops if a track would be discarded. Some codec combinations still need conversion.
Check before sharing
Play the exported file. Check the start, a later frame, and the sound. Keep your original until the copy works in its final destination.
